De­tec­tion of (bu­ried) ex­plo­si­ves, fo­ren­sic traces, and nar­co­tics are cri­ti­cal for en­su­ring ci­ti­zen safe­ty and fight­ing ter­ro­rism. Re­lia­ble de­tec­tion tech­no­lo­gy is nee­ded, both for crow­ded are­as like air­ports as well as for con­ta­mi­na­ted zo­nes. The chall­enge is en­ab­ling real-time de­cis­i­on ma­king to en­su­re so­cial se­cu­ri­ty while en­su­ring re­lia­bi­li­ty to uti­li­ze fo­ren­sic traces as ad­mis­si­ble evi­dence in court.

  • Iden­ti­fy dif­fe­rent and ca­te­go­ri­ze ex­plo­si­ves ba­sed on che­mi­cal com­po­si­ti­ons.

Fo­ren­sic traces:

  • Ana­ly­ze re­si­dues of gun­pow­der, fire ac­ce­le­rants or hu­man VOC fin­ger­prints.
  • De­tect and quan­ti­fy re­si­dues of che­mi­cal war­fa­re agents.
